More loin-stirring this time around (but I’m a network comedy kind of guy at heart). Not that there aren’t enough mockumentaries out there, but one about an elementary school is still a good idea. Also excited to see Roseanne Barr and family in a trailer park (although wasn’t Roseanne basically in a trailer park? [I jest]). Why though are there so many shows about funky moms who failed at raising their child? Is this in all of a sudden?

From Westerns to Pirates to Alien Cops: The TV Dramas in Development for Fall 2012:

So unfortunately none of these shows got me as hot and bothered as I was hoping. Pandemic sounds interesting, but it could easily be a cheap knockoff of Contagion or Walking Dead. The western-type show with Peter Berg and Liz Heldens could be good, but they’re only executive producing. On another note, it’s time for Shonda Rhimes to reel it in and work on fixing the shows she already has (although a show set in a ”luxury hotel” would give her even more excuses to write gratuitous sex scenes).

In a Gloomy Economy, TV Sitcoms Are Making a Comeback (NYT):

You guys! Sitcoms are so in this season. Gotta say I’m peeved that there is no mention in here of Parks & Rec or Community. Granted, they’re not killing in the ratings game, but as far as quality, I don’t think Parks can be beat. Especially not by two of the “brand new hits” the NYT refers to: 2 Broke Girls and New Girl.

In other news, NYT is a bit slow on the uptake for this story. Vulture had a bit on it ten days ago.

Friday Night Blight (NYT):

New York Times piece from today’s business section about Friday night television viewership. Nothing too revelatory, except who knew that high school football games stole so many viewers?! Also thought the point on the Great Friday Night DVR Catch-Up was a good interesting. I, for one, have been using Fridays as DVR catch-up time for years now. In high school, that’s when friends would come over to watch the Thursday night sitcoms.

This piece also made me miss ABC TGIF big time.

Good piece in the Times about Last Man Standing and Man Up, even though Noah and I have reason to believe Alessandra Stanley has been tapping our phones and transcribing our lunchtime conversations. I read this piece at breakfast yesterday and sent a picture of the headline to Noah. The response: “DAMMIT THEY BEAT US TO IT.” Watch your back, Stanley!
